Commercial photography shoot with SMS electrical

I recently carried out an industrial photography shoot for SMS Electrical in Nottingham, photographing the company’s factory and the people and processes behind its work.

The aim was to create a library of authentic images for their new website, showing the different stages of production and giving visitors a better understanding of what happens inside the business.

Rather than using models or asking employees to pose for the camera, I photographed the team as they worked. This meant spending time around the factory and allowing people to carry on with their jobs, capturing natural moments as they happened.

This approach was particularly useful in a working industrial environment, where staged photographs can quickly feel disconnected from the reality of the business. By keeping the photography unobtrusive, the images show the people, machinery and processes as they really are.

For companies such as SMS Electrical, this kind of industrial photography can be a useful alternative to generic stock imagery. Instead of showing a generic factory or anonymous worker, the website can show the actual people, facilities and processes behind the company.

The result is a collection of images that gives a much better insight into how SMS Electrical operates, while also giving their new website a more genuine and distinctive feel.
